Oyinda Smith

I am a 27 year old Nigerian woman who relocated to the US in 2015. I completed my undergraduate and graduate education at the University of Oklahoma and have been residing in Oklahoma for 10 years. I am currently under licensure to complete the requirements for becoming a licensed clinical social worker. With Oklahoma being a predominantly white state, I struggled with being one of the few people of color within the education setting and larger community. I was able to find a Nigerian community and that changed everything. With working in the mental health space, I have a deep appreciate for the mental strength needed to relocate and assimilate into a different country where societal expectations are not really prefaced. I would love to share my story and also my passion for improving mental health wellness for immigrants.
